Project Overview

ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵconstructed a combined heat and power (CHP) plant for New Indy Containerboard’s (NICB) Ontario Paper Mill, which included two new Titan 130 combustion turbine generators (CTGs) and two single-pressure heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), as well as related civil, foundation, and electrical, instrumentation and control scopes. The new capital equipment replaced the mill’s 30-year-old generator and HRSG, meeting the owner’s need for a reliable supply of power and steam: 33 megawatts of electric power generation and 330,000 pounds per hour of superheated steam.

The project served as a vital capital expenditure for the mill, which processes over 100 truckloads of old cardboard into recycled paper each day. Replacing older, less reliable generators, the new CHP plant will deliver lower capital and O&M costs, reduced pollution, annual savings and more reliable service that can handle peak load demands. By the client’s estimates, the new generating system will result in total savings of approximately $7 million per year, while reducing annual nitrogen oxide emissions by 228,000 pounds.

As the Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) contractor, ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵand our engineering partner handled all activities from design, to procurement to the installation of the large, complex equipment. The arrangement was ideal for the client; EPC delivery offered a turnkey solution, and ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵserved as the sole point of contact and the sole party responsible. Sundt’s longstanding industry relationships, upfront capital, and team mentality made this project a great success.
